Joe Stack. What a name. For those somehow unfamiliar youtube and idiots crashing videos, "stacking", it's "Australian slang for crashing and/or falling off something accidentally or falling down. Usually when operating a vehicle." [source: urbandictionary.com]

I read the article on NBC's website. Feel free to read it in its entirety- it's a relatively short article. I'm just going to comment on a few parts of it.

As the culmination of a longstanding grudge he felt for the agency, Joe Stack burned his house down before driving to the airport, getting into his plane and intentionally flying it into the IRS building in Austin, TX. His misplaced anger and insanity is detailed at length in his suicide note which can be read in its entirety here: Joe Stack's Diatribe.

His grudge was based upon a history with the IRS which appear to me to be entirely his fault and responsibility and easy to remedy. Maybe I'm drinking the kool-aid but I were in his shoes, I just would have paid my taxes and gone ahead and ran my business.

According to California Secretary of State records, Stack had a troubled business history, twice starting software companies that ultimately were suspended by the state's Franchise Tax Board.
He started Software Systems Service Corp. in Lincoln, Calif., but that business license was suspended in 2004 for nonpayment of back taxes totaling $1,153, KCRA-TV in Sacramento reported. Another company, Prowless Engineering Inc. was suspended in 2000 for failure to file a 1994 tax return, according to KCRA.
Stack listed himself as chief executive officer of both companies.

Furthermore, he left his wife and 12 year old daughter homeless since his house was burned to the ground. This joker owned a plane and had a family and decides to not only take his life but destroy as many lives as he can in the process. He blames everyone but himself for his self-imposed problems. Sounds like a Lib to me.

I watched this video on youtube because I missed Lindsey Vonn's gold medal win. This was interesting to me because she suffered a lower leg injury almost a week before she was due to compete. In spite of that injury, she went on to compete anyway and not only that but won the gold medal.

This video doesn't show the win but since I didn't know who she was, it was nice to put a face to the name. I suspected that she wasn't a Liberal because rather than tell the tale, "I was *this close* to winning 'olympic gold' but because of my leg injury, I couldn't compete", she went with trying anyway and probably due to strength of will and intestinal fortitude did it anyway. I also suspected she wasn't a Liberal because when you look at her you don't instinctively want to smack her.

That's the big difference between Liberals and the rest of us. They're awfully good at making excuses, not doing the work, and blaming everyone else for their own failures.

Lindsey Vonn is no Lib.

Now, we all know that this commenter is a Lib. Here are the red flags:

1. The username is "usaisadump". Libs hate America.

2. We suspect in others what we're guilty of ourselves and this commenter thinks she's a "faker" with an excuse just in case.
3. They call some unknown a "true" warrior with a "real" injury... both lib qualifier buzzwords
4. "also, am i the only one who notices..."... they think they're smarter than everyone else.
5. The commenter advocates and recommends throwing food.

You might remember that she's the one who ran at full speed to the pommel horse and after she stuck the landing, couldn't bear to put any weight on her ankle. Funny how the warmers seem to always ignore the South Pole. But today we find a story discussing Antarctica in an article from Nature that says Antarctica is cooling.

“Our 14-year continuous weather station record from the shore of Lake Hoare reveals that seasonally averaged surface air temperature has decreased by 0.7 degrees Celsius per decade,” they write. “The temperature decrease is most pronounced in summer and autumn. Continental cooling, especially the seasonality of cooling, poses challenges to models of climate and ecosystem change.”

The findings are puzzling because many climate models indicate that the Polar regions should serve as bellwethers for any global warming trend, responding first and most rapidly to an increase in temperatures. An ice sheet many kilometers thick in places perpetually covers almost all of Antarctica.

Temperature anomalies also exist in Greenland, the largest ice sheet in the Northern Hemisphere, with cooling in the interior concurrent with warming at the coast.

Sarah Palin “doesn't have any substance there behind her” and her remarks at the Tea Party convention were “embarrassing at points” since she delivered “simple, simple thoughts, very simple-mindedly expressed,” Washington Post columnist Colby King charged on Inside Washington.

Jumbling the famous “most of the American people are mediocre. And they have a right to be represented” quote and its source, Colby, the Post's deputy editorial page editor from 2000 to 2007, applied the “mediocre” label to Palin: “Just as the Supreme Court nominee who was defeated said, you know, ‘everybody needs to have a little mediocre representation and that's what I am.’ That's what she is.”

That’s a pretty mediocre recollection of the quote which actually is from a Senator commenting on a Supreme Court nominee, not from the nominee. As James Taranto recounted on OpinionJournal.com in 2002:

When President Nixon appointed G. Harrold Carswell to the Supreme Court in 1970, critics said Carswell was mediocre. Sen. Hruska, a Nebraska Republican, rose to the nominee's defense: “It has been held against this nominee that he's mediocre. Well there are a lot of mediocre judges and lawyers and people. King’s denigration of Palin, as spouted on Inside Washington, a weekly show produced and aired over the weekend by Washington, DC's ABC affiliate, but first broadcast Friday night on the local PBS station:

SO WHAT? What is wrong with expressing your thoughts clearly and simply? Why on earth would anyone aspire to unnecessarily complicate their words? I'm frankly sick and tired of pseudo-intellectual Liberals playing "dress up" by choosing archaic, pedantic forms of expression under the guise of being "eloquent" when really, they're just trying to ensure that nobody picks up on what they're really saying.

The etymology of "sophisticated" is that it comes from the Sophists who established the philosophy of Sophistry. These people had a reputation for being intelligently tricky. I learned this 30 years ago and ever since have had an ingrained distrust for such people. Just say what you mean and mean what you say.

I don't care how simply you say it- just be sincere. I suspect and trust I'm not alone on this and for that reason, I have a strange feeling that Palin is going to be our next president or at the very least, vice president.

Chris Matthews Continues to Convince Us That He's a Blithering Buffoon.

At least they don't perpetuate the myth that Liberals are snicker and condescending jackasses who have never lived down getting shoved into lockers in high school.

If MSNBC and CNN are really wondering why FOX is getting all the good ratings, they really should watch the network for a little while and pay attention. The hosts of the shows rarely snicker, never condescend to people who don't agree with their points, and when they have more than one guest on the air, it's invariably someone with a differing opinion from the first.

This video is a painfully reminiscent of what it must be like when a cheerleader tries to join drama club. For the first time, the people in drama club get to be the ones to exclude the "popular people" and do everything to pour as much acid as they can muster.

I know that Chris Matthews isn't a journalist- he's an entertainer so I really shouldn't take him seriously at all. After watching this video, I don't see how anyone could take him seriously at all.

Or perhaps it's an overwhelming feeling of inadequacy that forces you into a lifestyle of self-preservation by devout elitism based on merits which only have worth among equally delusional peers. The propensity for self-aggrandizement and accolades from contemporaries when no praise is warranted are the pitiful result of being raised in "I'm OK, You're OK" households where self-esteem trumps reality every time.

Liberals are torn between perpetuating the myth of their greatness and dreading the unavoidable truth that they're just ordinary. Statements like the ones above demonstrate a complete lack of shame or feelings of embarrassment as is so typical of the Liberal mind. If they felt such emotions, they'd never dare to make such a brash and vaunted statement.

Chuck Todd, NBC’s political director and chief White House correspondent really didn’t like it when Fox News Washington managing editor Bill Sammon appeared on Fox News Sunday and said, “…the mainstream media hates the tea party movement almost as much as it hates Sarah Palin.”

Todd: We all know there are a lot of different ways people get news. And then you have straight journalists, you have activist journalists, you have opinion folks. And we know that they’re all out there. I think we believe here at NBC that people are smart enough to figure it out [yes they are and they don't believe your bullshit for five seconds]. And that’s why when a news executive goes out there and states a crazy accusation like that, that it ends up, it only ends up probably hurting what they’re trying to do, but it creates, it only denigrates all of us ["but it creates, it only denigrates"? What you said? Remember- this guy is NBC's political director and chief White House correspondent. How on earth did he get there?].

And I’m sorry, there is [are] certain news organizations out here [there] whose agenda is [are] to undermine the 90% of journalists who are just simply trying to cover stories [You know- stop picking on the good, honest, hard-working people who are just trying to do their jobs. I know it's obvious that he's really talking about ONE "certain news organizations [sic]"- FOX. His use of singular verbs rather plural verbs makes this painfully obvious. If he weren't a Liberal, he'd just come out and say what he actually means instead of half-heartedly feign impartiality. Rather than coming across as diplomatic or tactful, he comes across as being a cowardly rat and that's probably closer to the truth.

What do you think would have happened if the security guards intervened? The media would have made them all out to be criminals. They were used to filling the judicial vacancies (which is crucial to forming society in their desired image) and when Bush started to make appointments to the bench, the libs filibustered. The filibuster was never used to block judicial appointees until the libs started it. Republicans did not employ this tactic. Nor had the libs until Bush was elected. When the Republicans had the option to stop it, they failed to act.

This reminds me of the Kitty Genovese case. A woman was stabbed to death near her home in Queens, NY in 1964. 38 people looked on as she was repeatedly assaulted. The fact that nobody acted to come to her aid became known as the "bystander effect" because the more people to witness a crime, the less likely that any one individual will step forward to act.

I said "tort reform" in the previous post because lawyers are part of the reason that people will act to assist others less and less. It's highly likely that someone would sue you for something if you happened to step in and defend the girl being assaulted. Even if the person suing you loses the case, you're still out the time and money involved in properly defending yourself in court. Most reasonable people wouldn't bother to get involved- particularly if there are others around who could just as easily render aid.

In the Kitty Genovese case, The New York Times printed "Thirty-Eight Who Saw Murder Didn't Call the Police". So on one hand, you've got the lawyers barking at the gates wanting to sue you. On the other, you've got the media attempting to guilt you or others into acting the next time.

I'm sure you're starting to wonder, "if that's the case, who benefits from all of this?" Well, it's the liberals who benefit. As Mr. Klown states, you've got predatory lawyers involved. These lawyers are invariably liberals who are interested in lining their pockets and the pockets of friends with mutual interests. The more they win their cases, the easier similar cases are to win in the future this type of a system benefits only those who are inside the system.

On the other side of the ring, you've got the media chastising you for acting in ways that won't get you sued for having acted. In other words, they want you to feel shame if you could have acted but didn't and use you as an example to others who might not have acted in similar circumstances in the future. Of course, if you're a fellow liberal, you don't feel shame so this pressure would have no effect on you. It only works on conservatives and right-leaning independents- when it works, that is. Conservatives and Independents aren't as susceptible to mind games as Liberals are.

Either way, the scenario reminds me of being in a tussle with someone bigger than you. Somehow you find yourself in a scrap bigger than you can handle and just when you're ready to throw in the towel, another, big kid comes over to root for you. With that encouragement, you get back into it and get your head handed to you as a result. As it turns out, the other big kid was really friends with the first big kid and just wanted to stand by and watch your spirit get broken so he wouldn't have to answer to you in the future either.

Maybe even more ominously, Florida was so diminished it's almost totally gone.

As reported by Florida State University hurricane expert Ryan Maue at the website Watts Up With That, the truth was apparently inconvenient for the Global Warmingist-in-Chief (h/t NBer Blonde):

With hurricane activity at 30-year lows, and Arctic ice levels on the rise, I guess Gore and Company figured they needed some help proving their point.

What they miss is that the photoshopped picture at the bottom is intended to inspire panic in readers. Not only are hurricanes (and Gornadoes) profusely added to the picture but also land masses are shown brown (because of elevated temperatures), and coastal areas are shown submerged (due to elevated sea levels). Elevated sea levels are most noticeable on Florida, the Baja Penninsula, and the Panamanian Isthmus.

Even though Al Gore has repeatedly proven that he doesn't mind looking like an idiot, he really should have clearly stated "this is what could happen if global warming continues at the ridiculous pace I have predicted."

Also, thanks to EvilKlown, there's a Gornado on the equator. Hurricanes cannot occur on the equator.

I personally know a few hipster poseurs who think Ayn Rand is "the greatest". They're not teenagers. They're not idealists. I imagine I'd be a fan of hers too... if I read. Nevertheless, I found Cathy Young's analysis of Ms. Rand's work to be interesting because I think that while she criticizes Ms. Rand for being overly capitalistic and stark and lacking in compassion and humanity, Ms. Young takes an ironically opposite stance.

Clearly, Ms. Young is writing to her audience and I'm sure they appreciate her left-wing argument. I've always contended that extremists on either side of the argument are not the truth but are a great conduit to the truth. Somewhere between the two extremes lies the truth. I think this article helps elucidate the truth quite well for any reader who understands Ms. Rand's work.

Ayn Rand, the controversial Russian-born American writer, would have turned 105 years old on February 2. This anniversary takes place amidst a Rand mini-revival, sparked by the Obama Administrations push to expand government and resulting fears of socialism on the march. There has been a spike in sales of Rand's books, particularly Atlas Shrugged, the 1957 novel depicting a quasi-totalitarian future America in which the best, the brightest and the most productive go on strike in protest.

Some bloggers have bandied about the idea of such a strike under Obama going Galt, after John Galt, the leader of the revolt in the novel. Rand has recently appeared on the cover of Reason, the libertarian monthly (where I am a contributing editor) and of GQ where she was the target of a profane, vitriolic rant.

Who is Ayn Rand, and what does her renewed popularity mean? A refugee from Soviet Russia who fled Communist dictatorship in the 1920s, Rand called herself a radical for capitalism rather than a conservative. Her vision, articulated in several novels and later in nonfiction essays as the philosophy of Objectivism, earned her a sometimes cult-like following in her lifetime and beyond it.

The BBC’s Andrew Neil absolutely grills Chief Scientist at the UK’s Department for the Environment, Professor Robert Watson. And who is Watson? Well, Al Gore called him “Hero of the Planet.”
What kind of garbage is this? Does anyone believe these responses at all anymore?

"We've identified the problem and we're working on making sure it never happens again". Yet nobody is punished (aside from the sacrificial lamb/scapegoat) and nothing is done to ensure it never happens again. This is likely due to the second overused excuse.

"I wasn't employed in that capacity at the time so I didn't know and shouldn't have known that the problem existed." This is another lame excuse wherein the person on the hot seat not only absolves him/herself of any past responsibility but also any future person guilty of the same shortcomings. By the time the issue comes to light, there will be a new person in that position who'll claim the same thing.

Of course, the person who is actually in the position of responsibility and accountability at the time of the "incident" will be shuffled into a similar but different position mostly so they can claim that they're no longer responsibility for such matters.

Does all of this sound confusing? I think it's confusing by design. Just think of it as one big shell game where nobody wins except the shells.

The Gallup Poll reported Thursday afternoon that a majority of Democrats, 53%, have a “positive” image of socialism, which includes independents who lean toward the blue party.

Only 17 percent of Republican and GOP-leaners hold socialism in a positive light. In total, more than one-third of Americans, 36%, have a positive image of socialism.

Also viewing socialism positively: 61% of liberals, 39% of moderates and 20% of conservatives.

No surprises here. I'm sure this is nothing to worry about. I'm sure everything will be fine.

So the Lancet, a British medical journal named after a really sharp object, retracted a horrible study attempting to link measle vaccines to autism.

Now this would really be great news, if the study had not come out, oh, 12 years ago. It’s really scary that it took a medical journal over a decade to admit what nearly everyone else with a working brain knew: the study had more gaping holes in it than Tom Sizemore’s septum.
But sadly, although the study author has also been discredited for this harmful crud, it doesn’t matter. People who believe in junk science will continue to believe in junk science, because their egos won’t allow any other option. And so they will continue preaching to parents a dangerous and false belief that ends up killing kids.

Audi is up to the same shenanigans. They're running "Green Police" ads in conjunction with a big ad which will run during the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, they're showing their ads for free on YouTube and people are watching them by the hundreds. I still think it's genius. In this case though, who the hell has ever heard of the "Green Police" in the first place?

I'm hoping this is just a feeble attempt to get "bad press" as if there is such a thing and that nobody is actually upset about Audi's usage of "Green Police" at all.

I swear. Liberals are standing there stupefied that one report after another after ANOTHER reaffirms that these "top men" global warming scientists were making shit up. It wasn't just ONE instance of cooking the books, it was MANY. As more and more evidence pours in, it's as if the Liberals are all sitting back and heaving a collective sigh of relief as if, "I'm glad THAT'S all over with".

Of course, the hits keep coming as the house of cards collapses right before their very eyes. All of their friends and colleagues who had been bragging incessantly at cocktail parties are letting themselves out the back door now. Well, they WOULD be if Liberals felt shame or embarrassment. The Obama administration – we’re forced to say “the administration” because no one has yet taken personal responsibility for the decision – chose to read him his Miranda rights and charge him in federal court.

Even the reliably liberal Washington Post sees the lunacy of this decision:

This was myopic, irresponsible and potentially dangerous.

Whether to charge terrorism suspects or hold and interrogate them is a judgment call. We originally supported the administration’s decision in the Abdulmutallab case, assuming that it had been made after due consideration. But the decision to try Mr. Abdulmutallab turns out to have resulted not from a deliberative process but as a knee-jerk default to a crime-and-punishment model.

In testimony Wednesday before the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Director of National Intelligence Dennis C. Blair, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, and Michael Leiter, director of the National Counterterrorism Center, all said they were not asked to weigh in on how best to deal with Mr. Abdulmutallab. Some intelligence officials, including personnel from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, were included in briefings by the Justice Department before Mr. Abdulmutallab was charged. These sessions did provide an opportunity for those attending to debate the merits of detention vs. prosecution. According to sources with knowledge of the discussions, no one questioned the approach or raised the possibility of taking more time to question the suspect. This makes the administration’s approach even more worrisome than it would have been had intelligence personnel been cut out of the process altogether.

What’s that? The Obama administration is more concerned about the rights of terrorists than the lives of Americans?

We’re shocked. Absolutely shocked.

I am too. I get it that Obama is trying to demonstrate to the world that the U.S. legal system protects and preserves the rights of the individual like no other country in the world. This is one of the reasons why it's great to be an American- whether you're a criminal or not. However, U.S. laws apply to U.S. citizens. I don't personally believe they should provide the same protection for people who are trying to blow us up. There is plenty of evidence that we're putting ourselves at a severe disadvantage by Mirandizing terrorists and enemy combatants. I'm all for treating non-U.S. citizens with due care and respect but I also believe that doing this with the "bad guys" shows poor judgment at best. If I didn't know better, the goal of doing this sort of thing is to leave the door wide open so the Democrats can swoop in and rescue us and blame the Republicans for letting it happen.

Obama-Loving Spammer 'Ellie Light' Dupes 42 Newspapers

Yes, "Ellie Light". For eons, democrats have been claiming that they're elitists. Somehow, choosing the most pedantic, obscure and archaic form of speech translates to "elitism" for them. Speaking and expressing yourself in a way that most people won't understand isn't "elitism", it's "slang". Any kid on the street knows all about it. Slang is merely a way of ensuring that only you and your immediate peer group will understand what you say. They might claim that it's a way of protecting themselves and their ideas from prying, judgmental eyes and ears but when you decipher it, it turns out it's pure drivel. I suspect "Ellie Light" is just a pseudonym for "elite". Clever... for a lib.

This reminds me of a former co-worker. Yes, she was a democrat. Yes, she was condescending. Yes, she was an elitist. She wore a tattoo on her left arm that was about the quality you'd see in a low-end prison- except it used green, red and yellow ink so it wasn't done in prison. It was just a very poor quality tattoo.

After knowing her for a few months, I asked her what it meant. She told me, "It's personal and it's very spiritual and you wouldn't understand what it means. Also, you'd probably make fun of me anyway."

"Fine", I thought. She was probably right anyway. It was a heart with some sun rays coming out of it so it was probably super-lame anyway. She might as well have had a unicorn and a rainbow in that spot.

Several years later, she was finally "ready" to share its meaning. "The heart represents your soul and the rays represent letting it shine for the world to see." I hadn't seen "Welcome to the Dollhouse" yet so I couldn't hand her a "Special People Club" membership card but yes, I made fun of her.

"In January, an anonymous person supposedly named "Ellie Light" launched a massive PR campaign on behalf of President Barack Obama.
The goal appears to have been to infiltrate as many newspapers as possible to spread pro-Obama propaganda -- as if the press needed the help.
Light's plan was simple enough: write a compelling letter to the editor, pretend to be a concerned reader in the region, and persuade the paper to print her liberal blather.
For three weeks, editors of mainstream newspapers big and small allowed Light to spread Democrat talking points under the guise of small-town grassroots without anyone bothering to double check her story.
The content of her letter was also quite simple: Blame George Bush.
Dozens of times over, Light echoed the sins of the previous administration and urged readers to give President Obama more time. Light's argument was nothing unique, but it was good enough to impress some of the best editors in America.
Politico's Ben Smith was first to take the bait publishing the letter on January 7 and explaining that it was just so well-written he couldn't resist.
By the time a quick reporter wised up to the game, Light had appeared in 42 newspapers claiming different residences, with each letter almost identical, and no one knowing any details about the masked citizen.
The scam abruptly came to an end Friday when reporter Sabrina Eaton of the Cleveland Plain Dealer followed a simple procedure of actually verifying a source. Light had appealed to the Cleveland paper to publish her screed, but as soon as a real reporter practiced some journalism, her cover blew wide open.
Readers are warned to avoid all beverages as they review Eaton's account of the hilarity that ensued (emphasis mine):

Light - who e-mailed an identical missive to this reporter on Jan. 16 without listing a hometown - would not answer e-mailed questions about the address discrepancies in newspapers that ran her letter, or her identity, although she did say she wasn't a former co-worker of this reporter's who had a similar name.
"I do not write as a representative of any organization," she said in an e-mail. "The letter I wrote was motivated by surprise and wonderment at the absence of any media support for our President, who won a record-breaking election by a landslide less than 18 months ago, and now, seems to be abandoned by all, supposedly for the infantile reason that he couldn't make all of Bush's errors disappear in one day."

Light's defensive replies prompted the paper to investigate her, and the truth was quickly found. From Eaton's Friday article:

In recent weeks, Light has published virtually identical "Letters to the Editor" in support of President Barack Obama in more than a dozen newspapers. Every letter claimed a different residence for Light that happened to be in the newspaper's circulation area.

Variations of Light's letter ran in Ohio's Mansfield News Journal on Jan. 13, with Light claiming an address in Mansfield; in New Mexico's Ruidoso News on Jan. 12, claiming an address in Three Rivers; in South Carolina's The Sun News on Jan. 18, claiming an address in Myrtle Beach; and in the Daily News Leader of Staunton, Virginia on Jan. 15, claiming an address in Waynesboro. Her publications list includes other papers in Ohio, West Virginia, Maine, Michigan, Iowa, Pennsylvania and California, all claiming separate addresses.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer has a standing policy of using telephone contact to verify a writer's identity. The Richmond Times-Dispatch, which serves my personal locale, confirmed a similar practice of their own.
Almost every paper uses some kind of vetting process precisely to stop such spamming. It boggles the mind that editors in dozens of newsrooms did nothing until she got this far.
The day after Eaton's story broke, Patterico took to the chase and compiled a more complete list of Light's appearances. No thanks to the mainstream media, bloggers worked their search engines to expose the size of Light's scam.
All told, 42 newspapers had fallen for Light, and on the very day that the Cleveland paper broke the story, USA Today had just printed their own version. It is absurd that three weeks passed with no one catching on.
Within the city of Philadelphia, for example, Light was published by the two major newspapers - the Inquirer and the Daily News - within the same week, and somehow nobody noticed her duet performance. Three papers within the state of Connecticut, two in Maryland, and three in Wisconsin also fell for the trick.
Either competing papers within the same city don't bother reading each other's content, or someone was remarkably lazy not to connect the dots. Aside from the proximity of such news outlets, Light got so much exposure that any editor should have been aware.

More weird science from the U.N. global warming scientists.

Apparently the new battle cry for global warming activists goes something like “Even if the data’s wrong, the overall theory is right.”

This idea was reinforced in a CNN report that said, “The U.N.’s leading panel on climate change has apologized for misleading data published in a 2007 report that warned Himalayan glaciers could melt by 2035.” Apparently those ~~facts~~ guesses were “poorly substantiated” and “well-established standards of evidence were not applied properly.”

Now in the old fashioned days of real science even a high school science paper required that facts be “substantiated” and “applied properly” or you had to start all over again from scratch. Not so in today’s U.N. mad scientist “we don’t need no stinking facts” world.

The CNN story continued: “Despite the admission, the IPCC reiterated its concern about the dangers melting glaciers present in a region that is home to more than one-sixth of the world’s population.” And then the spin on facts begins. “Speaking at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi Wednesday, the IPCC chairman, Rajendra Pachauri admitted errors had been made but said it was not an excuse to question the legitimacy of all global warming science.”

“Theoretically, let’s say we slipped up on one number, I don’t think it takes anything away from the overwhelming scientific evidence of what’s happening with the climate of this earth,” he said, according to Agence France-Presse.”

Apparently the controversy began because “The IPCC statement on Himalayan glaciers, which was based on information from a 2005 report by the World Wildlife Fund, was in turn gleaned from an article that appeared in the popular UK science journal, The New Scientist in June 1999.”

We are guessing that it left out the part were “The New Scientist” heard it from this scientist at a bar, who heard it from a guy he knew at work, who read it somewhere on the Internet.

Let’s just say the IPCC is full of crap. And we don’t mean theoretically.

Just days after the United Nations admitted its Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change used junk science to predict Himalayan glaciers would be gone by 2035, revelations have surfaced that its claim that global warming is linked to increased natural disasters is also false.

The British Times Online reported moments ago:

THE United Nations climate science panel faces new controversy for wrongly linking global warming to an increase in the number and severity of natural disasters such as hurricanes and floods.

It based the claims on an unpublished report that had not been subjected to routine scientific scrutiny — and ignored warnings from scientific advisers that the evidence supporting the link too weak. The report's own authors later withdrew the claim because they felt the evidence was not strong enough.

The article continued:

The new controversy also goes back to the IPCC's 2007 report in which a separate section warned that the world had "suffered rapidly rising costs due to extreme weather-related events since the 1970s".

It suggested a part of this increase was due to global warming and cited the unpublished report, saying: "One study has found that while the dominant signal remains that of the significant increases in the values of exposure at risk, once losses are normalised for exposure, there still remains an underlying rising trend."

The Sunday Times has since found that the scientific paper on which the IPCC based its claim had not been peer reviewed, nor published, at the time the climate body issued its report.

When the paper was eventually published, in 2008, it had a new caveat. It said: "We find insufficient evidence to claim a statistical relationship between global temperature increase and catastrophe losses."

Despite this change the IPCC did not issue a clarification ahead of the Copenhagen climate summit last month. It has also emerged that at least two scientific reviewers who checked drafts of the IPCC report urged greater caution in proposing a link between climate change and disaster impacts — but were ignored.

With Wednesday's announcement by the IPCC "that a paragraph in the 938-page Working Group II contribution to the underlying assessment refers to poorly substantiated estimates of rate of recession and date for the disappearance of Himalayan glaciers," the credibility of this organization at the heart of global warming hysteria is brought into further question.

But will American media report this new revelation?

After all, as NewBusters reported Saturday, television news outlets other than Fox competely ignored Wednesday's announcement by the IPCC, as did many print publications.

After showing the full clip of Stewart's fabulous smackdown on the previous night's "Daily Show," the MSNBCer said Friday:

"You're right. I have been a little over the top lately. Point taken. Sorry." Please oh please oh please oh please don't get my show canceled like you did to Crossfire! Please!

Unfortunately, the apology was to Stewart, not to the object of Olbermann's repeated attacks (video below the fold with partial transcript):

I googled myself on Bing a few minutes ago and the first hit was for a comment I made on BoingBoing. I thought it was a really weird post because there were no vowels in it. I really can't imagine that I'd ever do such a thing on purpose (you know- not worth it) so I read some more comments in the thread. A few people quoted me in their comments so it appears that the vowels were once there in my post but were subsequently removed.

I don't know why boing boing would do this except to make my post difficult to read without actually deleting it. If I were they, I would just go ahead and either delete the post or not allow it to be posted in the first place (all of their comments are moderated). Interesting. It sounds to me like a "freegan" is just a "hippy" by another name. Of course, if you walk around calling yourself a "hippy", people will know what you are immediately and avoid you like the plague that you are.

I spent the weekend with an old friend and her husband. He told me that he's been seeing a podiatrist whom he doesn't respect at all. I asked why he continues to see a doctor he doesn't respect and he responded, "well, he's a podiatrist- he's not a real doctor." I didn't bother to iterate my question in what would be a futile attempt to snake handle an answer from him.

It seems that he's got an inexplicable injury on top of his foot. He can't figure it out and the podiatrist wasn't much help- mostly because he didn't listen to anything the podiatrist said (you know- because the podiatrist didn't know anything at all).

With further interrogation, we uncovered some interesting facts. He has recently taken up jogging as a form of exercise. His chosen venue for this exercise is the local streets- you know- pavement. His running shoe of choice is the so-called "Vibram Five Fingers" sneaker. This shoe offers no padding or shock-absorption at all. Not even blind fans of the shoe claim that it does.

The benefit of the shoe is that it allows for a "barefoot feeling" when worn. Just like childhood when you would spend the entire summer shoeless. Basically, this sneaker offers mild protection against abrasion.

Shoeless running would necessarily minimize contact between the foot and the ground. Just imagine a cat or dog sprinting and you get the idea. Contrast running on the balls of your feet with the pervasive long-stride, heel-striking (inherently inefficient), sneaker-clad foot-roll. This style is clumsy, and the by-product of the thick-soles of modern sneakers, which mute important feedback between foot and ground. From justinowings.com review.

Out of overwhelming curiosity, I googled the shoe and this is what I found:

"Well, you tell me that these sneakers promote a 'natural feeling of being barefoot' and 'return you to a time when nobody wore shoes at all' but you leave out the fact that in those days, there were no roads on which to hurt your feet, shins and legs. In those days, people would walk on the ground and it was usually untrampled ground. In other words, it was soft and provided plenty of cushion. Unless you're running on the grass with these Vibram shoes, you're forcing your ill-equipped body to absorb all that shock with each step."

He fired back, "Well that's ridiculous- people run on pavement all the time and they're fine."

By this point, I had had enough and replied simply, "They're not fine, they experience injuries all day long and that's with the latest and greatest padding, shock-absorption and heel stabilizing technology. You, on the other hand, are doing the same thing without any such benefit. You even have an impact related injury as a result of it. I'm just not sure why this is such a mystery only to you. I'll have a bourbon."

This was a comment on boing boing about some cruise ship that docked in Haiti on schedule:

How is this different from what the rest of the USA is doing? We all get to play with our toys, eat fine food, and look fashionable because we've benefited from our nation's domination of the hemisphere.

The poverty of Haiti and other areas is exactly what has enabled our lifestyle. The US government occupied Haiti for much of the early 20th century, supported the Duvalier dictatorships, and overthrew Aristide when he got too socialist.

Haiti could have adequate emergency response. They could have their own effective security, healthcare, food distribution, etc. They could even have had shock proof buildings. The USA (and France) could have paid them the massive reparations that they are owed in order to enable this kind of economic development.

But we didn't do it. Why would we? We like having that reserve army of the poor to make sure that our servant laborers (south Asia, Latin America) don't demand too much, lest we outsource THEIR jobs. Places like Haiti ensure that capital always has a place to threaten to move to.

Military and economic forces have ensured that the US state and corporate powers have frankly dominated the world, allowing cheap labor and materials to flow back home.

Real social justice will come when American's consume only the value of what we can sustainable produce through our own labor.

I drove several hundred miles today getting myself and my friends around the suburbs. I had a prime rib for dinner. I know it's crazy and evil and I want to see our way of life fall. The way we live is unjust and unsustainable.

Most ethical leftists try to avoid hypocrisy by adopting puritan lifestyles. Eating vegan, buying only fair trade or only consuming what can be found in dumpsters.

I think this just creates a marginal subculture. It might make you feel good to not be complicit in exploitation, but it won't do anything to change society.

Only by living normally and attacking from within can we win.

I guess what this guy is proposing is that nobody should produce anything and should only use other people's stuff until they get thrown out on their asses like most hippies.

I just happened to wake up last night and that cartoon that makes fun of libs (The Goode Family) was on. Mr. Goode was supposed to be organizing a block party for libs. Somehow they found out that one of their heroes was going to be "walking through" their town during the block party. It was some doofus that left his wife and six kids and became a "freegan."

He was walking everywhere and would only consume what he found in dumpsters etc. He was a raggedy-ass fuck. Ponytail etc. He ended up staying with the Goodes. He reminded me of the Amish. As NewsBusters reported on November 28, Penn State University is investigating Professor Michael Mann, the creator of the discredited "Hockey Stick Graph," for his involvement in an international attempt to exaggerate and manipulate climate data in order to advance the myth of manmade global warming.

I keep saying that Liberals sit on their high horses and openly condemn bigots and racists yet they are among the biggest offenders of all. They keep asserting that racism is a real problem in our country- and you need our help fixing it. No. We don't. Naturally occurring diversity is what we need. Johnson's worst fears were confirmed in 1985 - 21 years later - when 'Moors Murderer' Ian Brady confessed to a journalist that he had actually abducted and killed Keith all those years ago, along with four other victims. In November of 1986 a desperate Winnie Johnson wrote to Myra Hindley, Brady's imprisoned accomplice, and pleaded for an official confession. A few months later Hindley supplied just that to police, with Brady following suit shortly afterwards.

Dear Miss Hindley,

I am sure I am one of the last people you would ever expected to receive a letter from. I am the mother of Keith Bennett who went missing, no-one knows where, on June 16, 1964. As a woman I am sure you can envisage the nightmare I have lived with day and night, 24 hours a day, since then. Not knowing whether my son is alive or dead, whether he ran away or was taken away, is literally a living hell, something which you no doubt have experienced during your many, many years locked in prison.

My letter to you is written out of desperation and faint hope, desperation because I know that for so many years neither you nor Ian Brady has ever admitted knowing anything about my son’s disappearance, and hope that Christianity has softened your soul so much that you would never any longer knowingly condemn someone to permanent purgatory. Please I beg of you, tell me what happened to Keith. My heart tells me you know and I am on bended knees begging you to end this torture and finally put my mind at rest. Besides asking for your pity, the only other thing I can say is that by helping me you will doubtless help yourself because those people who have harboured so much hate against you and prevented your being released a long time ago would have no reason left to harbour their hate. By telling me what happened to Keith you would be announcing loudly to the world that you really have turned into the kind, caring, warm person that Lord Longford speaks of.

Ok- for the record, screw MicroSoft. I've been a PC user for 30 years (what!???) and about a year ago, I tried a Mac. Boy was I pissed. Everything is so easy on a Mac and true to their propaganda, everything just works (okay- not everything- some programs aren't written for Mac OS). Ever since the first Macintosh, MicroSoft has been waiting for Apple to innovate and then doing their best to steal the ideas and then try in vain to try to make them work on an inferior OS.

Windows 7 is no exception. I haven't used the OS so I'm by no means expressing an educated opinion. I'm only speaking about the fact that they're advertising these great "innovations" even though Macs have been solving the same problems in a better way and they've been doing it for years. Since when is repackaging old technology "innovation"?

I also viscerally object to one ad in particular wherein the actress says she wants a computer that starts up faster. MicroSoft's solution? Fly her around the world to Japan (why Japan?) to demonstrate a 7 second startup (or whatever it actually is). I don't know about the rest of you, but that seems like a ridiculously excessive waste of money. I guess it's their idea of demonstrating international appeal but wouldn't it be much easier- and much more economical- to send the notebook to her? I mean, thanks for the drama but just who ends up paying for excessive spending? That's right- the end consumer does. That sort of business plan just doesn't sit well with me.

My last gripe (for now) is that they use "real people" in their ads but in the "reenactments", they use a better looking person who resembles the "real person" in the rest of the ad. I say "real" facetiously because they're actually just actors who look like MicroSoft's impression of real people. More likely, it's a Hollywood ad agency's idea of what real people look like. We can trust them because if anyone has their finger on the pulse of what's genuine, it's Hollywood.

I don't know what you might think about that, but the message they're sending me is that, "sure regular people are fine- you're probably one of them- but we all know that good looking people are the ones who have the good ideas so go ahead and step aside and let us take care of this while you go for coffee. I take mine with milk and sugar, thanks why are you still here?"

I'm just curious to know why it seems to me that every single time they interview a person of color that the person conducting the interview is a person of color. It's probably just a coincidence, right? RIGHT? Just a coincidence.

At one point, there were over 50 million Google search results for for the term “climategate.” When we purchased the domain name climategate.com a couple months ago, I remember there were just over ten million, and since then we’ve watched the number dwindle down what we have today: 1,950,000. In fact, when Air Vent wrote their article earlier today, they said it showed 2.2 million results. Between our two testings, that’s a quarter of a million fewer pages in less than a day. Goto to Google.com and key in the search field, “Christianity is” and see all the auto suggestions like “Christinaity is bullshit” that come up. Then try it with any other religion, except Islam. When you are done with the world’s religions, try “Islam is.” Huh? There is nothing there.

You see, just as Google is watching out for our best interests and not discouraging negative comments towards Islam, they also know that it’s in our best interest to not keep on keeping on with the absurd “Denier” crap.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada described in private then-Sen. Obama as "light skinned" and "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one." Obama is the nation's first African-American president.

"I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words. I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African-Americans for my improper comments," Reid said in a statement released after the excerpts were first reported on the Web site of The Atlantic magazine.

Poor choice of words? First of all, nobody says "Negro" anymore- unless they're making fun of bigots (wombat=guilty of doing this). If you want a simple rule of thumb, just ask yourself this question- "Would a black man ever, EVER refer to himself as a "negro"?" If the answer is "no" then you shouldn't use the word either.

Some of you might argue that black people call each other "Nigga" all day long. While I don't personally agree with this practice, I can't deny that it happens. However, have you ever heard a black person refer to himself as a "nigga"? No? Didn't think so.

The minority of the black population who use the word "nigga" argue that it's their form of retribution for the 300 years of slavery wherein it was common for white people to call black people "niggers". Using the word is their way of reminding us and themselves that they have neither forgiven nor forgotten. Their argument is that "nigga" is okay but "nigger" is never okay- even from another black man. I suggest that they move on and get on with their lives but that's just me.

Liberals will argue that racism is real in America- and you need them to help you fight it. They're perfectly happy keeping this in the forefront of everyone's minds. This way, they can create social programs, help groups and committees to battle it. I just say that black people and white people are different and we shouldn't try to treat each other as if there are no differences. What would be so bad about enjoying those differences?

There are many black customs that I personally enjoy. There's a lot of black history in our country that doesn't include slavery. Why doesn't anyone want to focus on the positives? Well, the Liberals don't want to do that because that would mean taking focus off the real problem- slavery and racism. If we get past that, we could all get on with our lives and the Libs would be powerless over us.

Okay, enough of that rant. Let's break down Mr. Reid's comments:

"light skinned" and "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

First of all, "Negro dialect"? WTF is that supposed to mean? Is he saying Obama didn't sound black? Just how does black sound? I mean, who the hell do you think you're talking to that describing skin color and using the word "negro" would be acceptable?

Second of all, "unless he wanted to have one"? So you're saying that he could pull his "blackness" out of his pocket when he thought it would be advantageous to do so. So I guess Mr. Reid is not only a racist but he's calling Obama an opportunist, a phony and a fake.

The "poor choice of words wasn't the problem. It was the whole statement. Furthermore, the state of mind and the ideas behind the statement were the problem. How can you possibly defend such a statement.

Then he goes on to apologize to "any and all" Americans AND African-Americans- ESPECIALLY African-Americans. Well, "any and all" includes ANY AND ALL so why does he feel the need to distinguish between Americans and African-Americans? Is it that he likes the idea of segregation? Does he approve of the idea of "separate but equal"? How can you be a proponent for equality when you insist on noting that there's a difference? I'll tell you what- stop treating black people like they're not simply "Americans" and nobody will be commenting on whether or not someone is "negro sounding" at all.

Amazingly, the AP recently posted an article that began, “He says ‘the buck stops with me,’ but nearly a year into office President Barack Obama is still blaming a lot of the nation’s troubles — the economy, terrorism, health care — on George W. Bush.”
You think? Adding to the amazement, the article was actually carried on MSNBC.

Continuing in this vein, the article goes on to say “An overwhelming majority of people say 2009 was a bad year for the country, according to the latest Associated Press-GfK poll. As Democrats head toward midterm elections trying to hang onto control of the House and Senate, half of Americans still think the country is headed in the wrong direction.”

Actually it’s a more than half, but give the AP credit for flirting with honesty. (Oh yes, this is funny)

“I think we have been successful in averting disaster,” Obama said on Dec. 16 about righting the economy. “You know, you don’t get a lot of credit for that, because nobody knows how bad it could have been.”

Right- NOBODY KNOWS HOW BAD IT COULD HAVE BEEN. Hear me? Things coulda been a LOT worse- so you need us to help you. The Libs use this sort of tactic because they have an unnatural aversion to the facts, the truth and to common sense. Just because things could have been worse it doesn't mean that your actions had any effect on the outcome. It also serves to distract from the idea that your actions made things worse than they would have been if someone else had handled them or if you had done nothing at all in the first place.

Here’s where the article gets very factual and does so in a way that must be painful to the Obama administration that is so accustomed to getting rave reviews.

"Folks'" Good lord. If that's not a Lib mating call, I don't know what is. Since I was 5, I haven't trusted people who use the word "folks". This is probably due to the fact that eventually, they wanted something from me without keeping their promise on what they would do in return. As far as I'm concerned, they might as well say "hillbillies" than "folks" since that's what they really mean to say in the first place.

I guess they figure that since they can sound very convincing and that people will follow them like sheep (mysteriously) that they might as well use it as an opportunity to promote what they already know to be good ideas.

The problem with these people is that they have an overwhelming need to feel like they have control and that they're empowered. They need to know that the Earth is under the control of humans and that humans are ultimately responsible for everything that happens on Earth. They simply cannot stand the idea that there are things in this world that are beyond our control. They cannot stand the idea that- like every other species on the planet- ours will not go on forever.

Honestly, this is the real problem with these people who believe that God didn't create man and that man created God. They have absolutely no faith that there's life after life on Earth. I get it that there's no proof. I get it that many religions take advantage of their followers. I get it that zealots, extremists, and fundamentalists are idiotic, dangerous, and evil. What I don't get is how they could POSSIBLY think that humans are any kind of "masterpiece" and that we are the culmination of eons of evolution in our universe. I mean really- the egos on these people.

KFC has created a "racially insensitive" ad that has gotten them more publicity than they could ever have hoped. Evidently, the disturbing part of this message is that if you give unruly black people fried chicken, they'll ctfd. Well, I suspect that they'd do the same thing if you offered them hot dogs. Or beer. But because it was fried chicken, it was offensive- but only to people who are NOT racists- get me?

KFC contends that the scene represents a classic Australian rivalry between Australia and the West Indies which explains the black/white theme. Frankly, if you know anything about Australian culture, they are among the least racist of all nations. If you want to see true black/white equality, use Australia as an example.

There's an American stereotype that black people love fried chicken. Well, I love fried chicken and I don't think I'm black. I also like watermelon- nay love watermelon. Colson Whitehead's latest novel, "Sag Harbor: A Novel" talks about being a wealthy black youth surrounded by white people.

"You didn’t, for example, walk down Main Street with a watermelon under your arm. Even if you had a pretty good reason. Like, you were going to a potluck and each person had to bring an item and your item just happened

This really has to suck though. To be forced into being so self-conscious because of the ignorance of other people. Elanor Roosevelt said that nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission but I think there's some confusion in the minds of minorities. There are negative stereotypes and there are benign stereotypes. I guess it takes less effort to avoid ALL stereotypes than just the negative ones.

Let's face it- no matter who you're stereotyping, some of those stereotypes are delicious. Soul food, watermelon, fried chicken, and bananas are delicious. Everybody loves them but if you happen to be Black, you better be careful because otherwise...

Well, I have an idea. If you're Black and you like all those foods, eat them. If you like orange soda, drink it. If you don't like mayonnaise, don't eat it but don't apologize for fitting into stereotypes that don't mean jack. Focus on avoiding other stereotypes- the negative ones- the ones that actually hurt you as an individual and as a race. Finish high school, finish college, don't get a teenage girl pregnant and if you do, stay with her. Stop wasting any energy avoiding things that are harmless and instead, exert yourself avoiding things that are.

I saw a short clip about this on the today show. I don't know if you're familiar with the "Sea Shepherd Conservation Society" [SSCS] but basically what they do is harass the ELS out of Japanese whalers. Now, I'm by no means an advocate for whaling. I personally think it's a barbaric business. I'm also glad that the SSCS reports that they are having a substantial effect on the success of Japanese whaling ships however dubious their accounting practices are. Also note that they shamelessly named their main ship the "Steve Irwin" in what should only be described as a fame grab.

Nevertheless, this new boat that they recently acquired (and subsequently demolished in a fit of par-for-the-course stupidity) makes it obvious that they're getting plenty of funding. This is yet another example of "looks good but doesn't work" activist initiative. I've watched nearly every episode of "Whale Wars" and from what I can tell, they spend the majority of their time running out of fuel just trying to find the Japanese whaling fleet. On the rare occasion that they actually find them and can catch up to them, they are typically so low on fuel that they can't do much in the limited time that they have. Eventually, they have to turn back to port to refuel all the while, smiling and feeling like they "made a difference". In actuality, the Japanese whalers just go back to business as usual.

I'm curious to know how they came to acquire this new speed boat. Evidently, it's a "record holder" and travels at 50 knots (90 kph)- for a boat, this is super quick. The video attached on the page clearly shows that they're harassing the whaling ship. They contend that they stopped in its path and were rammed resulting in the loss of the front 10 feet of their boat. I get it that they're breaking the law. I get it that you have to break laws which you believe to be unjust to get them to change but what the SSCS does is not "passive resistance" and I find it hypocritical for them to get any support for what amounts to eco-terrorism. I suggest that if they were serious about changing the laws, they'd do something to get the laws changed and not ram around the southern ocean flying the Jolly Roger while harassing ships large enough to do significant damage to their high-tech toys.

Here's a video of the incident. Notice how the Ady Gil thrusts FORWARD just before the collision. They contended that they were dead in the water and went into reverse to avoid the collision. Clearly this isn't the case. My favorite part is where the Japanese seamen shower the crew of the Ady Gil with a fire hose AFTER tearing off 10 feet of her bow. Shame on you, SSCS, for getting me to cheer for the bad guys.

Asked if people were born homosexual Barragan, whose comments were posted on a conservative Catholic website called www.pontifex.roma, was quoted as saying: "One is not born homosexual but they become that way. This is for various reasons: education, for not having developed their identity during their adolescence, maybe they are not guilty but by going against the dignity of the body they certainly will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven."
"Everything that goes against nature and against the dignity of the body offends God," he added.
Aurelio Mancuso, president of Italy's main gay rights group, Arcigay, said Barragan's remarks were part of the Church's "ridiculous theories about sexuality and the dignity of the person".
The Vatican distanced itself from the comments in a statement that was highly unusual because it indirectly criticised a top Church official.
Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said the website should not be considered an authority on Catholic thinking "on complex and delicate issues such as homosexuality".
Lombardi quoted from the official Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church, which says homosexual acts are a "disorder" but acknowledges that many people have "innate homosexual tendencies" and should be treated with respect and not be subject to discrimination.
The Catholic Church teaches that homosexual acts are sinful but homosexuality in itself is not.

How about all the Catholic priests who molested children? Do THEY get to go into heaven? It's just my opinion, but after centuries of self-preservation and ignoring their own sins, the Catholic church lacks credibility in my book. I think I'll go ahead and let God be the judge of humanity and leave the wealth accumulation to religious institutions.

"I would never confine them but it is a nice thought"???? How on earth do you make such a statement after going to so much trouble to depict your dream. You put dolphins in an aquarium and then say you'd never do such a thing. Well, and this is just a guess, but I suspect the ONLY thing stopping you from doing it is the fact that it's physically IMPOSSIBLE to do it. Your morals and high ground have nothing to do with it. Classic libspeak. "Oh I'd never do it myself... but wouldn't it be nice if we could *wink wink*?
